Pork Wontons

This recipe is 100% worth the effort! While it takes time to wrap the wontons, your future self will thank you for making a big batch and squirrelling them away in the freezer. A great weekend activity if you’ve got a bit of free time, with a delicious meal at the end!

Makes roughly 45 wontons

Ingredients

500g pork mince

2 finely diced shallots

1 tsp minced ginger

1 tsp minced garlic

1 tsp chilli paste

1 tbsp soy sauce

1-2 tsp sesame oil

1 tbsp water

Store bought wonton wrappers (gow gee round wrappers)

Method

1. Mix all ingredients together. Place roughly 1tsp meat mixture on a wonton wrapper, wet edges with water and seal on all sides. Place on a tray lined with baking paper spaced out to ensure they don’t stick together.

2. Options to cook

- Boil (recommended): in water for ~5 mins until wontons are floating and wrappers look evenly translucent

- Pan fry: heat oil to medium heat, add wontons and ½ cup water and cover with lid. Cook until water has cooked out and bottoms of wontons are crispy.

- Steam: in a lined steamer basket for ~5 mins until evenly translucent.

3. Serve with dipping sauces such as soy or sriracha, or in a clear soup.

Tractor Snacks Tip

For a quick and delicious soup, combine in a saucepan 500ml liquid chicken stock, 1 tsp each of ginger, garlic, chilli paste, sesame oil and soy sauce. Serve soup with wontons, steamed greens and sprinkle of sesame seeds. (2 serves)

To freeze, space out on a lined tray and pop in the freezer. Once frozen, transfer to ziplock bags or containers. Cook from frozen by adding a couple of minutes to the above times.
